My Kitchen

I have been reading a blog written by a sweet girl named Kelly. She has started a new Home Tour on Fridays and this week it was Kitchens! Here is a link to her blog...over 200 people have posted their kitchens to her blog. So go take a look...well after you read mine of course!

About a year and a half ago, Dan and I sold our 1930's home in Bentonville that we completely renovated...here is a slideshow of our old house before and after renovations...I thought I had a picture of just my kitchen alone but I think it's on Dan's laptop and he has it with him today...I may try to upload one later.

Needless to say I REALLY miss our old house....but we had to move on and as long as I can still cook for my family, it's ALL GOOD, especially since I love to cook so much!

We bought a duplex on the other side of town in October of 2007 and we live in one side and rent out the other. We were VERY pleased with the lay out of the duplex and it has plenty of space of all of us. Ultimatley we want to build a house and we are hoping in two or three years we will be able to do that. All this being said...here is my kitchen now!

We are actually in the process of doing a few updates. We have a new light fixture for the kitchen area to get rid of the flourescent that is in there now and we are going to paint it this pretty green color (the one in the middle).

I think everyone has a "keep all" area in their kitchen...well here is mine, it even includes jelly beans that shouldn't be there...oops!

I got these canisters for a wedding gift and absolutely love them. They are made by a potter named Vicki Carroll and the pattern is called "sil vu plait".

This is the "toy" cabinet. The kids keep their toys in here when they aren't all over the living room floor!

And this is where our home computer is kept...along with receipts and things that need to filed (but never do!)

And one of my paintings that I did back in 2003. I love it but it doesn't have a name!

Well there's my kitchen! Thanks for looking!

Blocks

Caleb built the coolest block tower yesterday. Just thought I would share!

Garage Sale Find

Yesterday I took the kids to the park and before hand I had sent out a text and message on facebook to several friends to see if they wanted to join me. I got a relpy back from my friend Leah and she said that she wasn't going to be able to make it since she was having a garage sale. She said that her neighborhood was having a big sale and that I should go check it out. I told her that I would come by and get her son and take him to the park and check out the sales in her neighborhood while I was at it. I only had $13.00 on me so I wasn't sure what I would find. I went by a house that had a couple pieces of furniture so I stopped and got out. I found a game of Clue Jr. for Caleb for a $1.00 and there under a bunch of stuff was this little table and two chairs. It had $15.00 on it! I held out my cash and said all I have is $13.00 and she took the cash and said I could have the game and the table set! I was so excited.

I have been needing a small table for out living room for the kids to do crafts and snacks on. I also had gotten...get this...an email and a call all in one day from two friends that want me to paint a play table for their kids. I saw this table and thought it would be a great opportunity for me to practice! The table and chairs are a little bit beat up and well used but it is solid wood and very sturdy! Looks like I will be working on this next week!

Farmers Market

On Wednesday at school, Caleb's class had a Farmers Market. All the students brought fruit and veggies to class (the goal was to bring some they have never tasted) and then they priced them to sell at their Farmers Market. It was held after school and we brought quarters to pay for the items. This was a great way for the students to learn about money and also learn about all the different fruits and veggies. Caleb was an excellent salesman. I ended up buying some kiwi, a plum, a banana, and an avacado.

Another Apron

Size 12mo-2t (since I didn't have a whole lot of fabric) for $20.00

Aprons...

I went to Hobby Lobby two weeks ago and they were having a sale on their simplicity patterns for $1.99 each (reg. $15.00) so I bought one thinking I MIGHT like to sew again. I have not sewn since I chose to sew Caleb's baby bedding before he was born. I think I over did it a bit and got burned out too quickly trying to complete such a big task for a beginner, even though I did have some help from my mom. My mom bought me a new singer sewing machine while I was making Caleb's bedding and it has been taken out once or twice for various projects but I really haven't used it much. I lost the instruction manual a few years ago and didn't even know how to thread my bobbin. I got online back in January and I found an online PDF to download for $15.oo and I bought it and it was SO worth it! I have a feeling I will be sewing a lot now...it's great therapy!

Anyway, back to the pattern...

I bought a pattern to make an apron for Ariel. I got the facric on sale for $2.00 for half a yard and only ended up using half of that. I got my bias tape on sale and I also got the ribbon that I used for an accent on sale as well. I think I spent less than $5.00 on the whole thing. Caleb and Ariel got invited Trinity Fox's birthday party at Jump Zone tonight so I decided to give the apron to her for her birthday. It was SO much fun to make once I got the hang of it. I think I did a pretty good job considering I hadn't sewn with a pattern in nearly 5 years! It took me all morning to make but I was on the phone a lot and had to get up quite a bit with Ariel since she was needing attention. I am going to try to make another one with the left over fabric that I have for Ariel either tomorrow or Thursday since Caleb is at school.
My model was a little chilly and didn't want to be outside!

By the way...I am selling these for $22.00 each and I can make them any color you want...I even have a pattern for boys!

Catch up is a beast!!!

I think I am done for today!

Easter Sunday

I have been involved in the "Three Days" performance at church for the last three Sundays. I had to be at church around 8:15 so I got up extra early so that I could get my quiet time in and take a shower before the kids got up and noticed their Easter baskets. I actually had to wake them up at 7:40 so that I could see them before I left.

Caleb got legos and Ariel got a tinkerbell doll...and lots of candy!

These were the best pics that I got for Easter Sunday...it was pouring outside and rainy all day and my kids weren't that cooperative!

Last night my mom came over for dinner. We had pork tenderloin, potatoes, corrots, black eyed peas, shells and cheese, rolls and red velvet cake for dessert! YUM!! We had a great day.

Easter Egg Hunt at Church

Our church hosted an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday. It was a beautiful so we took advantage of the sunshine since we knew that the weather would be cloudy and rainy on Easter.

Happy Easter!!

Caleb and his best friend Ashlyn...he calls her his girlfriend! They have known eachother since they were only a few months old!
Caleb was in a different location than Ariel and he got about 8 eggs....can you find him?
Ariel didn't get any eggs...poor thing.
But she got over it quick and didn't seem to care!
These sweet kids gave her a few of their eggs...God love em!!
